Scheduling Tips, Policies & Disclaimers:

a warm note on policies:

The policies posted here are a culmination of 37 years of experiences that made them necessary. My approach is centered on win/win policies, and they are implemented when needed, with equal levels of flexibility when warranted.

Scheduling tips:

  • Appointments are scheduled in my studio or by text message or email, but they can be scheduled online as well. If you don’t have the password, please contact me.
  • Preset/Standing Appointments: These are reserved for clients who want to secure their space in my book, and they won’t be offered to others unless canceled.
  • No Preset/Standing Appointment: Openings are filled on a first come/first served basis. There may be a wait to be seen. I take no responsibility for times when appointments are not available. Please take this into consideration when scheduling special offers, gift certificates, discounted sessions, and packages.
  • The time allocated for each appointment includes greetings, consultations, time for clients to get on and off of the massage table, dressing, payment processing, and scheduling appointments. To preserve time for massage, I suggest wearing easy on & off clothing and little jewelry, having standing appointments, or 1- 3 appointments scheduled in advance. Paying by check or Zelle can be done in advance, or in the waiting area after the session.

appointment reminders & Cancellations:

Business Hours - Sunday - Thursday:

  • Administrative Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
  • In Session Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Closed: 5:30 p.m.

Most of my workday is spent in session with clients, which leaves very little time for other matters. I provide appointment reminders 3 - 5 business days in advance to allow sufficient time for clients to respond to secure the space or reschedule if needed. Once confirmed, further reminders will NOT BE SENT (unless requested), and I depend on clients to touch base with me if anything changes.

New, 48-hour cancellation policy:

My goal is to have time to fill spaces when openings occur. To minimize business losses, the full charge may apply with less than 48-hours' notice and with no shows (less than a 4-hour notice), at my discretion.

When fees are warranted, I may deduct them from any prepaid package or gift certificate, or send an invoice by email, which can be paid online with a credit or debit card.

Fees are waived in most cases with sudden illness or emergency.

Thank you for understanding my time limitations and for supporting the financial obligations of my practice!

Illness Policy:

While fees are generally waived with illness, this policy is not meant to be a substitute for timely cancellations. Please contact me as soon as you know you are ill or feeling under the weather.

Clients are not seen (and I do not work) under the following circumstances, unless medically cleared as not being contagious. Please contact me in advance to postpone your session with any of the following:

  • When actively ill or with lingering symptoms (less than 10 days from the onset).
  • When feeling unusually under the weather, as the contagious period for colds & flu can begin two days before you become noticeably ill.
  • If you have been knowingly exposed to anything contagious, until the incubation period has passed. This includes exposure from travel or large gatherings and events.

Late Arrivals:

  • Late arrivals will receive the remaining time of the appointment with the full fee.
  • Unless I am informed that you are on your way, if more than 15 minutes of waiting pass, the session may be marked as a no-show and billed in full. There are times when I may leave the premises, especially if it is the last appointment of the day.
  • In the event that I run late, you will either receive the full time or be provided with a credit toward your massage that day, if extending the session is not possible.

Payment Options:

Payments are processed in my studio at the time of service, or by telephone/emailed invoice upon request.

Gratuities are greatly appreciated, and they are seen as an extra contribution beyond the price of the session.

All major credit and debit cards are accepted. Your consideration on the fees associated with each transaction is appreciated. I reserve the right to charge these fees as well:

  • 3% for in-person chip card payments.
  • 4% for all other transactions.

No Fees: Zelle, cash, checks from established clients.

Packages & Gift Certificates:

Packages:

  • Packages are sold with scheduling and renewal agreements. Please use all massages by the expiration date.
  • Expired balances can be used towards any normal price or full price session of equal length for one-year, after which balances will be forfeited.
  • Refunds are available if requested within 7 days of purchase, and if I'm unable to provide the service for 6 months or more.

Gift Certificates:

  • Gift certificates are sold with 12-month scheduling terms.
  • Please use all massages, or schedule all massages in advance, by the expiration date.
  • Non-Refundable.

Extensions on Packages & Gift Certificates:

  • Extensions are given with medical circumstances, emergency, and if I must cancel appointments.

If you choose not to use your package or gift certificate:

  • They can be gifted to someone else, by the expiration date, upon request. Please contact me with the person's name, telephone number, and email address. The prepaid amount will apply to the price they normally pay. Prepaid gratuity will apply towards gratuity.

Personal Property (Lost & Found):

It is not uncommon for clients to leave personal items behind after their massage. I will immediately contact you if I notice you have left something behind in my treatment room. Rest assured that what is left behind will be safeguarded, until it is returned to you.

Items left outside of my studio (restroom, lobby, etc.) cannot be safeguarded, and I take no responsibility for those items.

Disclaimers on the Services Provided:

Massage therapy and bodywork are not replacements for professional health care treatments. Make sure to share any updates about your health status. If you have a specific illness, consult your doctor before starting any massage therapy or bodywork sessions.

A Touch of Balance Massage for Health & Jan Jakubowski, LMT focuses solely on assessing and addressing clients' concerns related to emotional stress, chronic pain, long-term tension, or injuries. It does not perform diagnostic procedures, treat specific medical conditions, conduct spinal or skeletal manipulations, or prescribe natural, herbal, or pharmaceutical remedies.

The primary aim is to encourage relaxation and support overall health and well-being. Results vary based on individual circumstances, unique situations, and the frequency of sessions.

Clients are encouraged to make informed choices based on their individual risk factors, such as age and pre-existing health conditions. Ultimately, the decision to receive massage therapy is a personal one.

Zero Tolerance Policy:

Massage therapy has progressed into being a frequently sought after preventative healthcare practice, and most people are looking for professional and legitimate massage therapists. Unfortunately, there are still times when misconceptions can occur on the touch aspects of massage. I take strict measures to avoid having experiences of this nature, so it must be mentioned here:

Any inappropriate advances or suggestions coming my way will not be tolerated. The session will be immediately ended with a full charge fee, and law enforcement may be contacted.
